You?ve probably done it; I know I have. You?re driving home late at night feeling disappointed ? or worse.Maybe you?re pounding the steering wheel and shouting at yourself. You just had sex with someone and you?re sorry you did it.

You know the bumper sticker that says that the worst day at the beach is better than the best day at the office? Well, this is not true about sex. It?s better to stay hungry and horny rather than have sex that leaves you feeling bad about yourself. Good sex means sex that feels enjoyable while you?re having it, and equally good when you think about it afterwards. Bad sex comes in several flavors, but they all taste pretty bad. You know it?s bad if you feel like you just wasted your time, or like you did something that hurt yourself or someone else. And if the sex is bad, why bother having it?....

The main mistakes people make are:

1. The sex was all right, but it was with the wrong guy. - In this instance, there was nothing wrong with the physical acts involved ? whatever felt technically OK. But there was something about the guy or the situation that made it really not work for you.

Maybe one of you was hoping for a friendly encounter (or more) and the other one was brutally frank that this was just about getting off, thank you very much. If you reserve sex for someone you love and you do it with someone you find you don?t even like all that much, your body may be happy, but your heart won?t be. If you?re single and looking for love, sport-sex can leave your emotions raw and take a toll on your self-esteem.

If you leave feeling wounded or feeling like you?ve wounded the other guy, the sex was bad, no matter how much of a hunk your partner might have been.

Other situations that make it not work: you?re cheating on your lover and you feel guilty afterwards. Or you and your sex partner match up in terms of availability, but the guy is thoughtless or rude in a way that leaves you feeling bad about yourself afterwards. Or maybe you just have no interest in the guy and realize you weren?t really horny ? you were just avoiding some chore like paying the bills at home. A good rule of thumb is to save sex for when you?re horny or wanting intimate connection with another person ? not when you?re just bored.

2. Both the sex and the guy were awful. We?re not talking bad technique here. You picked up the guy when you were high or drunk, even though you know that?s a problem for you, and now you feel like it was just another time when you were out of control. Maybe the guy was so hot that you gave in and had sex that you know was risky and unsafe and now you?re worrying about HIV or some other STD. Some sex is really, really bad ? when you?ve been assaulted, for instance. Maybe you are feeling violated because what happened was essentially date rape. Too often men think rape is something that happens only to women. They don?t recognize that having someone not take no for an answer is also a form of sexual assault, even if no one pulled a knife or a gun. Men who are drunk or high or who are just coming out can be particularly vulnerable to this sort of assault because they have trouble setting limits. Learning to say no and learning to protect yourself is important. The woods aren?t full of creeps, but hey: be careful out there.

3. The sex and the guy seemed OK, but the time afterwards was icky. We can spend so much time working toward that orgasm that we don?t pay enough attention to what happens afterwards. Put yourself in that place: you?re still breathing hard, and your body is in a tingly, electric place. All of a sudden, your stud muffin is out of bed and on to whatever is next.

If you?re having good sex, when it's over, you are entering a time that sexologists call afterglow. It?s a time when your heart is open and your body is awake, your mind is quiet and your spirit is soaring. You?re feeling open and maybe vulnerable and with the right guy it?s a very sweet time.

If you?re having bad sex, one of you is probably rushing to the bathroom to clean up right about now, destroying the mood. Even if you are a neat freak, don?t be in such a rush that you leave your partner feeling dirty afterwards.

Of course in really bad sex someone may not be rushing for the bathroom ? they may be running for the front door. When it?s over, it?s over! Nothing to say and no touching or holding. It can feel like listening to a piece of music that gets interrupted before the final notes are played. You?re left hanging.

Orgasms are nice (OK, orgasms are great), but they are not the sum total of sex ? especially good sex. Good sex means that getting there is more than half the fun, and staying there afterwards is also pretty cool.

How to avoid bad sex? First, resist the urge to cruise when you aren?t really horny. Using sex as a time-filler sets you up for disappointment. Learn to say ?no? when the chemistry with your potential partner isn?t working; don?t have sex just to avoid disappointing him (believe it or not, people do that all the time).

Know your limits regarding alcohol, drugs, unprotected sex and related stuff, and honor the limits you set for yourself. You?ll feel good afterwards. And finally, when you are having sex and it?s going fine, don?t cheat yourself out of enjoying the coming-in-for-a-landing time after the big orgasm.

Treat yourself and your partner with tenderness and respect.

Oceanside, NY, June 27, 2012 ?(PR.com)? A 67-year-old Long Island man is thriving more than a year after he was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus and underwent a highly complex surgery to remove the thoracic section of his esophagus. Once the section of the esophagus running from the diaphragm up to his chest was removed, his stomach was then pulled up and attached to the remaining portion of the esophagus located in his neck

A multi-disciplinary team of surgical, radiation, interventional and medical cancer physicians at South Nassau Communities Hospital, led by Rajiv Datta, MD, FACS, medical director of South Nassau?s Gertrude & Louis Feil Cancer Center and chair of the Department of Surgery, and Shahriyour Andaz, MD, FACS, director of thoracic oncology, collaborated on the operation.

The initial phase of the surgery was performed by Dr. Andaz. Working behind the heart, pulmonary vessels and the trachea, Dr. Andaz used the da Vinci? robotic surgical system to remove the thoracic section of the esophagus as well as 21 lymph glands surrounding and adjacent to the esophagus.

?The three-dimensional view of the surgical site provided by the da Vinci enabled me to remove the exact section of the thoracic esophagus and to be more thorough and extensive in the removal of the lymph glands,? said Dr. Andaz, who was assisted by cardiothoracic surgeon Stewart Fox, MD, FACS.

After Dr. Andaz completed the removal of the thoracic esophagus, Dr. Datta followed with the ?mobilization of the stomach.? Dr. Datta made an incision in the neck to move the stomach up into the neck and attach it to the esophagus.

?The expertise of the team combined with patient-centered surgical technologies and the da Vinci system resulted in an uneventful surgery and postoperative recovery for the patient, who was discharged home without any complications,?

VIENNA (AP) ? Austrian police did not need sniffing dogs to locate this suspected heist ? 9.5 tons of garlic.

The Austria Press Agency says police stopped three overloaded and sagging vans about to cross into Hungary from Austria on Wednesday and found them packed to the roof with the pungent cargo. After questioning the five men in the vehicles they charged them on suspicion of receiving stolen goods.

Police say the garlic apparently came from Spain and estimate its value at ?30,000 ($37,500). The men ? all Romanian nationals ? were not named, in line with Austrian privacy laws.

APA cites one officer as saying it was clear what the vans were carrying even before their doors were opened.

"All three vehicles really stunk like garlic," he says.

Huawei Activa 4G (MetroPCS)

The Huawei Activa 4G ($149) for MetroPCS is Huawei's first 4G LTE-capable smartphone. While 4G LTE isn't as fast on MetroPCS as it is on AT&T or Verizon, you still get plenty of speed for your buck, which is sweetened by the carrier's inexpensive monthly plans. Unfortunately, that alone isn't enough to save this phone. The Huawei Activa is buggy, built with low-end parts, and has a poor camera. You're better off paying an extra $100 for a far more capable LTE device.

Design, Call Quality, and Data Plans
The Huawei Activa measures 4.8 by 2.4 by .4 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.9 ounces. Despite the low depth figure on paper, the Activa looks and feels especially thick, like it's two phones that have been pressed into one. The back is made of black plastic with a light pattern design, while a dark silver band surrounds the face of the phone. It's a decent size to hold and use, but it has a bit of a cheap, chintzy feel.

The 3.5-inch, 320-by-480-pixel capacitive touch LCD is bright enough, but the low resolution often makes text appear jagged. The on-screen keyboard is small and somewhat difficult to type on. Below the display is a mammoth chin, nearly an inch of space filled only by four capacitive touch function buttons. It feels like a waste of space, and it doesn't look particularly good, either.

The Activa works on MetroPCS's LTE network where it can find it, and on the much slower 2G CDMA network where it can't. The phone also uses 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and connected to my WPA2-encrypted Wi-Fi network without a problem.

Reception is weak, and call quality isn't much better. Voices sound clear but extremely thin in the phone's earpiece. Calls made with the phone are also clear, but background noise cancellation is practically nonexistent. The speakerphone is far too quiet to use outside, though it worked well indoors. Calls sounded fine through a?Jawbone Era?Bluetooth headset ($129, 4.5 stars), and voice dialing worked well over Bluetooth without training. Battery life was a bit short at 5 hours, 16 minutes of talk time.

4G LTE on MetroPCS is very different than it is on AT&T and Verizon. As we discovered in our?Fastest Mobile Networks?testing, rather than offering spectacular speeds, MetroPCS is going for decent speeds at very low prices. The carrier's average 4G speeds are more like a very good 3G network. This Activa pulled in average download speeds of 4.2Mbps and uploads of 2.3Mbps, which is consistent with the other LTE phones we've tested.

MetroPCS recently changed up its 4G LTE plans, but they still remain very affordable. For $70 per month you can get unlimited talk, text, and data, along with unlimited music from Rhapsody and video on demand from MetroStudio. $60 gets you unlimited talk and text, 5GB of 4G data, and unlimited music through Rhapsody. $50 is good for unlimited talk and text, along with 2.5GB of 4G data, and $40 gets you 250MB of 4G data. You should probably skip the $40 plan, but the $50 provides plenty of high-speed data for most people.

Apps, Multimedia, Camera and Conclusions
The Activa runs Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread). There's no word on an update to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but it probably isn't happening.?As far as the OS is concerned, this is basically stock Android, with almost no interference from Huawei. There are five customizable home screens you can swipe between, which come preloaded with some standard apps and widgets. There's a good amount of bloatware installed, but luckily you can delete most of it. The phone also comes preloaded with a copy of Kung Fu Panda 2, though it eats up lots of valuable space on your (Kung Fu Panda-branded) microSD card.

The Activa is powered by an 800MHz?Qualcomm MSM7627T?processor. Performance was slow across the board, and the phone turned in benchmark scores that were actually closer to phones powered by a 600MHz processor. The Activa should be compatible with most of the 400,000+ apps in the Google Play store, though graphics-intensive games may not run smoothly. I also encountered a lot of bugs. Sometimes apps wouldn't install after downloading them from Google Play. Other times, while listening to music, songs would randomly stop or only play for the first few seconds. There were error messages that a particular type of file couldn't be played, only for it to work a few tries later. And the notifications bar at the top of the screen is frustratingly unresponsive, often requiring several swipes to drag down.

Multimedia support is mediocre. There's 151MB of free internal storage, along with a preloaded 4GB microSD card; my 32 and 64GB SandDisk cards worked fine as well. The phone was able to play AAC, MP3, OGG, and WMA music files, but not FLAC or WMA. Aside from the bugs I mentioned above, music sounded fine over both wired 3.5mm headphones as well as?Altec Lansing BackBeat?Bluetooth headphones ($99.99, 3.5 stars). For video, the Activa was only able to play H.264 and MPEG4 test files, at resolutions up to 800-by-480. Audio over Bluetooth was slightly out of sync.

The Activa's 5-megapixel camera has an LED flash but lacks autofocus. Shutter delay is too long, at 1.6 seconds. Photos snapped have average color, but sorely lack fine detail. The video camera is worse. Videos max out at a tiny, blurry 352-by-288-pixel resolution, and play back at an unusable 12 frames per second indoors, and a slightly better 20 frames per second outside. There's also a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats.

The Huawei Activa 4G will hook you into MetroPCS' 4G LTE network for less than $150, but once you get there, you're stuck. Between the bugs, low-end specs, poor camera and middling call quality, you'd be much better off spending an extra $100 on the LG Connect 4G?($249, 4 stars). You'll get a larger, brighter, much more beautiful display, along with a fast 1.2GHz dual-core processor and a better camera. That's your best bet as far as 4G devices are concerned, as the Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G?($299, 3.5 stars) and LG Esteem?($379, 4 stars) are both significantly more costly, and neither are as fast as the Connect 4G. If you're more interested in playing games and making calls than in fast data speeds, the LG Optimus M+?($149, 3.5 stars) is a good starter phone, though it runs on a much slower 2G network.

Magnet helps target transplanted iron-loaded cells to key areas of heart

Optimal stem cell therapy delivery to damaged areas of the heart after myocardial infarction has been hampered by inefficient homing of cells to the damaged site. However, using rat models, researchers in France have used a magnet to guide cells loaded with iron oxide nanoparticles to key sites, enhancing the myocardial retention of intravascularly delivered endothelial progenitor cells.

"Cell therapy is a promising approach to myocardial regeneration and neovascularization, but currently suffers from the inefficient homing of cells after intracavitary infusion," said Dr. Philippe Menasche of the INSERM U633 Laboratory of Surgical Research in Paris. "Our study was aimed at improving and controlling homing by loading human cord-blood-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) for transplant with iron oxide nanoparticles in order to better position and retain them in the hearts of myocardial-injured test rats by using a subcutaneously implanted magnet."

The researchers found that the cells were sufficiently magnetic to be able to be remotely manipulated by a magnet subsequent to implantation.

According to the researchers, an objective assessment of the technique to enhance the homing of circulating stem cells is the ability to track their fate in vivo. This was accomplished by visualization with MRI.

"We found a good correlation between MRI non-invasive follow-up of the injected cells and immunofluoresence or quantitative PCR data," said Dr. Menasche. The researchers concluded that further studies were needed to follow cell homing at later time points. They noted that the magnitude of homing they experienced may have been reduced by the relatively small number of cells used, owing to their large size and the subsequent risk of coronary thrombosis.

"In a rat model of myocardial infarction, this pilot study suggested homing of circulating stem cells can be improved by magnetic targeting and warrants additional benchwork to confirm the validity of concept," said Dr. Menasche. "There is also a need to optimize the parameters of targeting and assess the relevance of this approach in a clinically relevant large animal model."

"This study highlights the use of magnets to target transplanted cells to specific sites which could increase their regenerative impact. Factors to still be extensively tested include confirming the safety of the cells containing the magnetic particles and whether this process alters the cell's abilities" said Dr. Amit N. Patel, director of cardiovascular regenerative medicine at the University of Utah and section editor for Cell Transplantation.
